Forced into piano lessons at an early age, I recall the tedious elementary pieces my peers and I first played, such as “This Old Man,” “Twinkle Twinkle,” and I remember being so eager to progress to “Chopsticks.” But the least favorite piece for me to learn was the Bridegroom’s March. To this day, when I attend a wedding my smile masks the dislike for “here comes the bride, big fat and wide.” The traditional march is an earworm, striking its dissonant notes on a badly tuned organ. Daddy said, "I love You."
There is something magical about any wedding. And, the saying holds true, “There is no ugly bride.” I was one that thought that I had ruined my chances of having a dream wedding. I became pregnant at the age of 18 and felt like I had let my whole family down. We were young, and did not have a lot of money.
The day came nine months after our son was born that we decided it didn’t matter if we had a lot of money, we were getting married. We let family know and apologized for the short notice. My Big Fat Beach Wedding
I wanted a beach wedding but we couldn’t get the whole family to the beach so we brought the beach to our back yard. We put painter cloths on the lawn then covered them with sand. We brought in tables and chairs and strung tiny white lights across the yard to shine like stars.
We convinced a friend, who was ordained for the occasion, to officiate. He didn’t tell us he liked to drink. A lot.
It seemed everyone liked to drink and they were all getting into the spirit of things before the wedding started.
I wore a vibrant blue, short dress, strapless and snug fitting. Mike wore linen pants and blue Hawaiian shirt. We both wore flip .....
